Some Pics from Gettysburg

I figured out how best to post pics to Blogger, so here's some from yesterday:

The State of Pennsylvania has over 90 regimental monuments alone, including this one, the largest monument at Gettysburg (as befits the home state):

The name of every Pennsylvanian who participated in the battle in inscribed in plaques around the base, the generals are inscribed around the top, and statues of various leaders (including Lincoln) are at the sub-base.

Several states, including the southern states (which don't have regimental monuments, just state monuments) have a general state monument. Here's a couple of the best.

Virginia

New York (this is for you, Sean and Susan)

This might be my favorite:

It's for the Irish Regiment. It's got a great Celtic cross, and that's a very sad dog at the bottom. I thought you might like that particularly, Kris.

Here's Rachel, showing her appreciation for her Dad's history lessons while we visited the field (she started staying in the car after about an hour of hopping out at the bigger monuments):

Here's the marker for the First Minnesota Regiment.

Here's a picture of an artillery piece and marker with someone's house in the background. You can see their swingset. Can you imagine how much fun the kids there have with all this stuff?
